FOOTNOTES:
*** Your main domain (your site’s URL) will point to Netlify.
Easy to follow instructions on how to connect to GitHub, and then point your domain name servers to Netlify, can be found on Netlify’s website.
IMPORTANT: If this is not a new domain name and you have email addresses @your-domain, these emails will stop working when you change your nameservers. If you want to keep your email server in the same place it was running before you will need to consult with your email hosting provider (probably the same company as your current web hosting provider) about changes to DX records you will need to make on Netlify (in addition to changing the name servers).
** GitHub now offers private repositories for free accounts.
Your GitHub repository will be the main source of truth.
Also, if you don’t want to use Netlify, you can skip it and activate “GitHub Pages” in your repository’s settings page. Your main domain (your site’s URL) can point to GitHub Pages — important: if you have email addresses at this domain, they will stop working when you change your nameservers (see below).
* WordPress-generated static pages:
- When saving a page in the WP interface, you also render that page as a lightweight static HTML file.
- For this to work you will need WordPress running and the WPhead plugin installed (or use WPhead Online where the plugin is preinstalled — see below).
- The WordPress installation can use cheap PHP hosting (this server doesn’t need many resources since it’s only accessible to authors) from a hosting provider like Bluehost or GoDaddy, or it can be ran online using my free WPhead Online tool.
Either install the plugin on your self hosted WordPress site or run WPhead online:
